Gores was born on July 31, 1964, in Nazareth, Israel. He was the fifth of six children in a Catholic family whose mother was of Lebanese and Greek descent. His father was Greek. He and his family moved from Nazareth to Genesee, Michigan, 10 miles northeast of Flint, when he was about five years old. Stocking shelves at his uncle’s Genesee grocery store was his first job. Gores played guard in basketball, middle infielder in baseball, and defensive back in football while attending Genesee High School.

After school, Gores had a short stretch at Mainland Phone prior to assisting tracked down a wood coordinated operations programming with firming (Ventech). He and his wife drove a used Cadillac from Michigan to Los Angeles in 1989 to manage the company’s West Coast operations. Gores established Platinum Equity in his Sherman Oaks residence in 1995.
Guts had shown interest in buying and was one of the leaders to turn into the proprietor of the NBA’s Detroit Cylinders after the passing of the long-term proprietor, Bill Davidson, in 2009. In October 2010, it was announced that then-Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers proprietor, Mike Ilitch, would buy Detroit’s NBA establishment.
