Armani worked as a sales clerk and window dresser in the Milan department store La Rinascente in 1957 after spending two years in the military. As a result of the high demand for his skills, Armani worked as a freelancer for the next ten years, contributing designs to as many as ten manufacturers at once while still working for Cerutti. Armani met architectural draftsman Sergio Galeotti in the late 1960s. This marked the beginning of a long-term personal and professional relationship.
Armani has designed a number of pop star Lady Gaga’s stage outfits, including the ones she wore on her record-breaking Born This Way Ball Tour and Monster Ball Tour. He has also designed for a lot of well-known award shows, like the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards and the 52nd Grammy Awards.
