Charles Otto Puth Jr. is a singer, songwriter, and record producer from the United States. His first exposure came from the viral success of his YouTube song videos. After appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and creating and producing content for other artists, Puth signed with the record label Eleveneleven in 2011.

Charles Otto Puth Jr. was born in Rumson, New Jersey, on December 2, 1991, to Debra, a music teacher who also created HBO commercials, and Charles Otto Puth Sr., a builder and real estate agent. Stephen and Mikaela, his younger siblings, are twins. The three are the children of a Catholic father and a Jewish mother.

At the age of 12, he joined a summer young jazz band at the Count Basie Theatre’s Cool School in Red Bank, New Jersey. Puth was previously cast in a Charlie Brown show at The Count Basie Theatre. In sixth grade, he went door to door selling Have a Very Charlie Christmas, a Christmas album he had recorded and produced, and made $600 in sales.
He went to Holy Cross School, Rumson Middle School, and Forrestdale Middle School before graduating from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School in 2010. He studied jazz piano and classical studies at Manhattan School of Music Pre-College from seventh grade to senior year. Puth graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2013 with a degree in music production and engineering.

In September 2009, Charles launched his own YouTube channel, Charlies Vlogs, where he posted comedic videos and acoustic covers. Puth debuted his first music video for “These Are My Sexy Shades” in 2010. The Otto Tunes, his debut extended play, was released independently in December 2010.
Puth signed with APG/Atlantic in early 2015, and his prior albums were deleted from iTunes. Puth released his debut single “Marvin Gaye” in February 2015, featuring American singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor.
Puth released “Attention” as the lead single off his second studio album Voice Notes on April 21, 2017. The song reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100, making it his highest-charting single as a solo artist as of April 2022.
