Donald Leroy Bren, an American entrepreneur, currently holds the positions of chairman and owner. The Irvine Company is a well-known real estate development company in the United States, Bren completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Washington, earning a degree in business administration and economics. During his time at college, he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Unfortunately, he failed to make it to the 1956 Olympic ski team due to a sports injury. Following his graduation, Bren joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served as an officer.

Five years later, he teamed up with two others to establish the Mission Viejo Company (MVC) with the intention of developing the city of Mission Viejo, California, on a massive 10,000-acre land. Bren was the President of MVC from 1963 to 1967. In 1970, International Paper purchased the Bren Co. for $34 million, but the recession forced them to sell it back to Bren for $22 million in 1972.
Bren expressed his support for two politicians from different political parties in California, namely Republican Pete Wilson during his Senate and governorship campaigns, and Democrat Dianne Feinstein, whom he highly regards as a great senator for the state. In 2008, Bren’s exceptional generosity earned him a spot on BusinessWeek’s prestigious list of the top ten philanthropists across the United States. His remarkable donations to a range of causes, including education, conservation, and research, exceeded $1 billion.
