Childish Gambino is the stage name of Donald McKinley Glover Jr., an American actor, comedian, rapper, writer, director, and producer. At age 23, Tina Fey hired Glover as a writer for the NBC series 30 Rock after Glover worked in Derrick Comedy while attending New York University. He then became well-known for playing Troy Barnes, a college student, in the NBC sitcom Community from 2009 to 2014. Glover created the FX series Atlanta, which he also occasionally directed, and starred in it from 2016 to 2022.

Glover was hired as a writer for the NBC sitcom 30 Rock after Miner and Tina Fey were impressed with his work. Glover contributed to 30 Rock as a writer from 2006 to 2009, he also made sporadic cameos. For their efforts on the third season, he and his co-writers received the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Comedy Series in 2008.
In March 2011, his first extended play, EP, was made available as a free digital download. That month saw the premiere of the “Freaks and Geeks” music video and Glover’s hosting of the MTVU Woodie Awards at South By Southwest. Glover agreed to a comprehensive contract with Amazon Studios in 2021. It was revealed that he would produce, star in, and co-star with Maya Erskine in a television remake of Doug Liman’s 2005 film Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Glover tweeted that he was now scripting a trilogy of full-length movies in April 2021.
