Swedish citizen Frederik Dag Arfst Paulsen was born in Stockholm. The founding father of Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Frederik Paulsen Sr., was his father. Father and Eva Wolf Frandsen, one of the early researchers at Ferring, raised Paulsen in Sweden. He attended school in Sweden before transferring to Germany’s Christian Albrecht University in Kiel to study chemistry and Sweden’s Lund University to study business administration.

Frederik Paulsen was born on October 30, 1950. Paulsen has been based in Switzerland since 2003, and in Saint-Prex, Switzerland, Ferring later established its global headquarters. His primary area of commercial interest is the Ferring Pharmaceuticals Group, where he has held senior managerial roles since 1976.
He is also interested in real estate and vineyards. Also, Frederik Paulsen serves on numerous boards. He served as a director on the board of Philip Morris International up until 2023. Paulsen also served as the Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Lausanne, Switzerland, from 2009 to 2022. He was appointed Honorary Consul General in 2015. His Majesty, Queen Elizabeth of England, made him a Knight of the Order of St. John in the year 2020.
Also an adventurer, Paulsen. He dived more than 14,000 feet in a Russian MIR submersible in 2007 with Russian veteran explorer Artur Chilingarov and Australian researcher Mike McDowell to collect samples of the soil and flora at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean near the North Pole. In an ultralight aircraft, Paulsen and his travelling partner François Bernard made the first trans-Bering Strait flight in 2010 from America to Russia.
