Kelce was predicted as a fourth-round choice despite his lack of genuine NFL size. At the 2011 NFL Scouting Combine, he ran the fastest 40-yard dash of any offensive lineman, clocking in at 4.89 seconds. Kelce had an appendectomy on March 11, 2011, after being diagnosed with appendicitis.
Kelce was taken by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round (191st overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft. Kelce was unable to practice or sign a contract until July 25, 2011, when the NFL lockout was lifted. On July 27, he agreed to sign 4 year contract. Howard Mudd, the new offensive line coach, envisioned Kelce in the pattern of Indianapolis Colts five-time Pro Bowl center Jeff Saturday, whom Mudd coached for 11 seasons in Indianapolis.
Kelce and the Eagles faced the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. Jason’s brother Travis Kelce played for the Chiefs, making it the first Super Bowl in which two siblings played for opposing teams. Jason and the Eagles were defeated 38-35 by Travis and the Chiefs. Kelce re-signed with the Eagles on a one-year contract on March 15, 2023, after considering retirement.
