About Jim Davis
James Robert Davis is an American sketch artist, screenwriter, and maker. He is most popular as the maker of the funny cartoons Garfield and U.S. Sections of Land. Distributed beginning around 1978, Garfield is one of the world’s most generally partnered funny cartoons. Davis’ different comics work incorporates Tumbleweeds, Gnorm Gnat, and Mr. Potato Head.

James Robert Davis was brought into the world in Marion, Indiana, on July 28, 1945. Davis was raised by his mother Anna Catherine “Betty” Davis and his father James William “Jim” Davis on a small Black Angus cow farm in Fairmount, Indiana.

Davis joined the staff of the Fairmount High School newspaper The Breeze in 1959 and eventually rose to the position of Art Editor. Davis’s first comic, apparently inspired by school life, was published here. Davis additionally drew most of the outlines for his 1963 senior yearbook, reusing similar characters.
Before making Garfield, Davis worked for a promotion office, and in 1969, he started helping Tom Ryan’s funny cartoon, Tumbleweeds. Then he created a funny cartoon named Gnorm Gnat, which appeared in The Pendleton Times, a newspaper in Pendleton, Indiana, for a long period of time (1973–1975). From 1976 to mid-1978, Davis then distributed a strip named Jon in The Pendleton Times which would later become Garfield, beginning partnership in 41 papers on June 19, 1978. Starting around 2008, it was partnered in 2,580 papers and was pursued by roughly 300 million users consistently.
Davis composed and co-composed all of the Garfield television specials for CBS, initially broadcast somewhere in the range of 1982 and 1991. He also delivered Garfield and Companions, a series which also circulated on CBS from 1988 to 1994. Davis wrote and served as executive producer of the CGI animated television series The Garfield Show and Garfield Originals, as well as a series of CGI direct-to-video feature films about Garfield.
