John Joseph Ricketts is an American businessman and Charity Person. He is the organiser, previous Chief and previous administrator of TD Ameritrade. John Joseph Ricketts, the son of Florence M. (Erhart) and Donavon Platte Ricketts, was born on July 16, 1941, and grew up in Nebraska City. Having four children—Pete, Thomas, Laura, and Todd—with his wife Marlene Margaret (Volkmer), Ricketts was reared as a Roman Catholic. He is presently a resident of Wyoming’s Hoback Basin.

In 1975, Ricketts and a small group of partners spent $12,500 to found First Omaha Securities. This retail securities brokerage company later grew into Ameritrade, also known as TD Ameritrade, through mergers and acquisitions. In October 2011, Ricketts stepped down from the TD Ameritrade board to focus on his business and charitable endeavours.
Ricketts established the natural bison meat reseller High Plains Bison in 2004. In addition to having physical and online distribution channels, High Plains Bison is the authorised supplier of bison at Wrigley Field in Chicago. On Ricketts’ ranch in Wyoming, some of the bison are raised. The Lodge at Jackson Fork Ranch, a four-bedroom lodge, is situated on the same site. The Blackfeet tribe’s wild herd is harmed by Joe Ricketts Grizzly Ridge Bison Ranch in northern Montana, which comprises 2% of their ancient grounds despite the tribe’s attempts to repurchase its own land.
