She got a chance to be a piece of the ensemble cast of the comedy-drama 200 Cigarettes in 1999. The cast included actors Ben Affleck, Courtney Love, Paul Rudd, and Elvis Costello. But, the film was a flop. She accepted her break in 2000 when she played the role of Penny Lane in the comedy-drama which is almost famous. Despite not being a film industry hit, the film was highly acclaimed by the critics and Kate won a few honors and nominations.
Kate’s popularity expanded after showing up in Almost Famous. Thus, she was bombarded with film offers. She showed up in a few films next several years. A portion of these movies include About Adam in 2000, The Cutting Room in 2001 and The Four Plumes in 2002.
