About Laurence Graff
Laurence Graff OBE is an English gem dealer and business tycoon financial specialist born in London. He is best known for starting Graff Diamonds, a high-end jewellery company that focuses on unusual and rare diamonds. More than 60 stores in Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Middle East are part of Graff’s business empire. When Graff started working as an apprentice at a London jewellery store, he began developing a passion for diamonds at a young age.

In 1938, Graff was born in Stepney into a Jewish family. He was the son of a Russian father, Harry Graff, and a Romanian mother, Rebecca Segal. Raymond, his brother, was born in 1947. Empowering her child to gain proficiency with an exchange, Graff’s mom selected him for a gems-producing studio in London, and he passed on school at 14 to turn into an understudy.

He soon formed a partnership with Schindler, a jeweller, and they opened a small shop where they repaired rings and made small jewellery. When that shop closed, Graff started selling his designs for jewellery on his own to jewellers all over England. He had two jewellery stores by 1962, the first of which was in Hatton Garden.
Laurence established Graff Diamonds in 1960. He gave the English jeweller Robert Thomas the task of designing a diamond ring for the De Beers Diamond International Awards competition in 1966. The competition was won by the created ribbon bracelet. By 1974, he had begun to concentrate on selling to Middle Eastern buyers who had recently become wealthy. In the Birthday Honours of 2013, Graff was given the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to the jewellery industry.
