Li ShuFu Career
Li Shufu was born in Zhejiang’s Taizhou. Yanshan University conferred a master’s degree upon him. In November 1986, Li established Geely, which is now the second-largest private automobile manufacturer in China. On March 28, 2010, Geely agreed to acquire Volvo Cars, a Swedish automaker, from Ford Motor Company, an American automaker. It was the biggest unfamiliar buy by a Chinese vehicle producer. Li had a goal of increasing domestic sales to 600,000 by 2015, with $900 million in working capital from Geely and a commitment to build a Volvo factory in China.
In November 2018, Li made the announcement that he had signed a contract with the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp. to build a new line of supersonic bullet trains. The arrangement is for the trains to run utilising the recently evolved innovation. Core technology cannot be purchased, Li stated. The more you utilise others’ innovation, the more dependent you become. We must innovate independently. The excursion will be intense, however, the possibilities are promising.”

Li is one of the 94 Zhejiang delegates chosen for the 13th National People’s Congress. He is an independent, unaffiliated delegate. Li has criticised China’s joint venture system for the automotive industry, claiming that it hinders Chinese automotive OEM innovation, quality, and technological advancement in favour of foreign OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.
In 2018, as per the Monetary Times, Li turned into Daimler’s biggest investor, with a 9.7% stake in the German automaker. In 2020, Li was in chats with Volvo Vehicles to converge with Geely in his transition to make a worldwide automaker. Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, Li’s investment fund, owns Volvo and Geely, but they operate independently.
