In 1991, Li co-founded Mindray, a medical equipment manufacturing company based in Shenzhen, along with Xu Hang and Cheng Minghe. Their first sale, worth 360,000 yuan, was secured by Li at a medical equipment convention in the 1990s. Mindray went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2006, raising an impressive sum of US$270 million. However, in 2016, Li and the other two co-founders of Mindray decided to take the company private in a deal worth US$1.9 billion.
