Since 1989, Hans-Adam II has been the Prince of Liechtenstein. He is the child of Royal lady Georgina von Wilczek, the spouse of Ruler Franz Joseph II. He also bears the titles Duke of Troppau and Jagerndorf, and Count of Rietberg. A constitutional referendum held in 2003 increased the Prince of Liechtenstein’s authority during his rule. Hans-Adam’s amendment to the Liechtenstein Constitution to increase his authority was approved by a referendum in 2003. If the referendum did not go in his favour, the prince had threatened to quit and leave the country. On 15 August 2004, Hans-Adam officially gave the force of pursuing everyday legislative choices to his oldest child Inherited Ruler Alois as official, as an approach to starting a dynastic progress to another age. Legally, Hans-Adam is still in charge of the state.
Franz Joseph II, Hans-Adam’s father, had done the same thing on August 26, 1984.
