He worked briefly as a sales assistant for Brooks Brothers following his discharge before becoming a necktie company’s salesman for Rivetz. Lauren persuaded the president of Beau Brummell, a tie manufacturer, to let him start his own line when he was 28 years old. In 1967, he started The Ralph Lauren Corporation by selling men’s ties.
In 2000, Ralph Lauren and NBC’s joint venture RL Media launched the company’s website and online store as Polo.com. Ralph Lauren Corporation relaunched the website as ralphlauren.com after acquiring the NBC share of RL Media in 2007. American Living was the name of a brand that Ralph Lauren Corporation launched exclusively for JCPenney in 2008.
It was Ralph Lauren and JCPenney’s largest cross-category brand launch ever. Stefan Larsson would succeed Ralph Lauren, the company’s founder, as CEO in November, it was announced on September 29, 2015. Lauren will continue to serve as chief creative officer and executive chairman.
