In the year 1950, Anthony von Mandl was born in Vancouver, Canada. After graduating from college in 1972, he established the Mark Anthony Group, a wine import business. In 1981, he purchased his most memorable winery in the Okanagan Valley, Canada where he started delivering wines as well as juices. He ended up buying at least six wineries in the area.

After observing the popularity of Corona beer in the United States, he purchased the rights to import it into Canada in the 1980s. In 1996, he introduced Mike’s Hard Lemonade because he realised that many men felt compelled to drink beer despite their dislike of the flavour.
