David Reuben is an Indian-born British business tycoon. Reuben is a UK-based investor who offers interests in innovation, land and hospitality with his billionaire sibling, Simon. Reuben recently claimed Worldwide Switch, administrator of server farms in Asia and Europe. They bought a luxury mansion in London for more than $200 million, which is among their prime European real estate holdings.

David Reuben Career

David Reuben was born in 1938, three years before his younger brother Simon, in Mumbai (Bombay). The children of Jewish guardians from Iraq, they moved to London as youngsters. In 1974, David joined Merrill Lynch as a scrap metal dealer and began trading metal in the Soviet Union. He and Simon formed the metals trader Trans-World Group three years later.

In 1991, they opened an office in Russia and acquired controlling stakes in aluminium plants in both Russia and Ukraine with the assistance of their partner Lev Chernoy. With sales of $6 billion in 1997, they became the third-largest producer of the metal in the world five years later. Politicians and media in Russia panned the business, focusing on Trans-World’s slim profit margins.

The brothers sold their stake in the company to billionaire Oleg Deripaska in 2000 for $250 million, investing the proceeds in real estate, leisure interests, and technology companies in the face of fines from Moscow and disgruntled former managers attempting to take control of their smelters.

The former In and Out Club in London’s Mayfair neighbourhood, which they purchased in 2011 for more than $200 million, is one of their property holdings. Their holdings are valued using information from real estate data providers IPD, Savills, Colliers International, and Grosvenor, as well as price data for the relevant London districts. The Reuben family also owns 10% of Newcastle United Football Club. Based on the soccer club’s reported purchase price, their stake is valued.
