About John Mayer

John Clayton Mayer is an American singer, lyricist, and guitarist. Born in Fairfield County, Connecticut, Mayer went to Berklee College of Music in Boston, yet he left and moved to Atlanta in 1997 with Mud Cook. Together, they shaped a fleeting two-man band called Lo-Fi Masters. Mayer continued to play local clubs after the couple split up, honing his skills and gaining a following.

John Mayer Family

Mayer was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on October 16, 1977. His dad, Richard Mayer, was a secondary school principal, and his mom Margaret was a middle school English teacher. Mayer has stated that he has a connection to Judaism, as his father is Jewish. Mayer and future tennis star James Blake became close friends when they were in elementary school, and for 3 years, they played Nintendo on weekday afternoons after school.

John Mayer Career

After two semesters, they moved to Atlanta after urging with his college friend Clay Cook; there, they started a two-man band called LoFi Experts, and started performing in local cafés and club settings like Eddie’s Attic. As indicated by Cook, they encountered melodic contrasts because of Mayer’s desire to move more towards popular music. Mayer embarked on a solo career after the two parted ways.

Mayer made the independent EP Inside Wants Out with the assistance of Glenn Matullo, a local producer and engineer. The EP remembers 8 songs with Mayer for lead vocals and guitars. A full band, including the EP’s co-producer David “DeLa” LaBruyere on bass guitar, was hired for the first song, “Back To You.”

Numerous hit songs, including “No Such Thing,” “Your Body is a Wonderland,” and “Why Georgia,” were inspired by “Room for Squares.” For “Best Male Pop Vocal Performance,” Mayer won a Grammy. In 2005, Mayer framed the Mayer Trio with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan. On 20 August 2013, Mayer delivered another collection named “Heaven Valley.” With 145,560 copies sold in the US during its first week, it appeared at number two on the Billboard 200 list.
