Zhong Shanshan is one of China’s most prominent billionaires, who recently rose to international fame and recognition as the world’s fourth-richest person after his two companies, Nongfu Spring and Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy Enterprise Co. Ltd., both surged in value by hundreds of billions of dollars due to their specialized services in the health industry.

His success has been attributed not only to his business acumen and unrivalled dedication but also to his unwavering commitment to helping those less fortunate. One example is supporting charities dedicated to providing clean drinking water or developing sanitary systems for impoverished communities.

Early Life

Zhong Shanshan was born in rural China in 1950 to a poor family. He worked as a delivery boy after graduating from high school and never made it to college. Desperate for more education, he participated in self-study courses and eventually started his own business as a newspaper vendor – his first entrepreneurial venture.

From there, Shanshan would go on to become the self-made billionaire we know him as today, founding Nongfu Spring mineral water in 1996, which has since become one of the most successful companies in China.

Net Worth

Zhong Shanshan has become the second wealthiest self-made person in Asia, with a remarkable net worth of over $69.4 billion. Shanshan is the founder and chairman of Nongfu Spring and has made his fortune selling bottled water to Chinese consumers.

He started the business in 1996 with an investment of only 5,000 yuan ($770). Throughout the years, it has grown into one of China’s largest beverage companies, serving up to 150 million customers nationwide.

His success story has truly inspired many entrepreneurs looking to make their mark in business.

What many may not know is that before becoming a successful business mogul, Shanshan had tried his hand at various professions, including working as a journalist for the Economic Daily! Not only was Zhong committed to giving back to his home village by providing it with access to clean drinking water but he also donated millions of face masks at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in China.
