The Russian billionaire businessman Andrey Grigoryevich Guryev is well-known for his time as the head of PhosAgro, one of the largest producers of phosphate-based fertilisers in the world. He served as the Menatep Group’s Deputy Director from 1990 to 1995. He was given the position of First Deputy CEO of ROSPROM, Head of the Mining and Chemical Products Department, and Head of the Y. V. in 1995, Samoilov Research Institute for Insectofungicides and Fertilisers (NIUIF) was established. The Russian Union of Chemists has elected him vice president.

In 2004, he acquired Mikhail Khodorkovsky’s half of PhosAgro at a very low cost, as Khodorkovsky was arrested by the Vladimir Putin system. In 1995, he was designated as Top of the Mining and Synthetic Items Division, the Primary Representative President of ROSPROM and thus top of the Y. V. Samoilov Exploration Organization for Manures and Insectofungicides (NIUIF).
