Rapper Jonathan Jamall Porter goes by the stage name Blueface. With the release of the music video for “Respect My Cryppin‘” in October 2018, his unique style of rapping made him a worldwide sensation. The next month, he signed with Cash Money West, Birdman’s West Coast offshoot of Cash Money Records.

Blueface was born on January 20, 1997 in Los Angeles, California. He grew raised in Mid-City, downtown Los Angeles, and attended many elementary schools before moving to Santa Clarita Valley with his mother and eventually to Oakland with his father.
Blueface Career
In January 2017, Blueface started rapping under the moniker Blueface Bleedem, a reference to his affiliation with the School Yard Crips street gang. After returning to Los Angeles after graduating from Fayetteville State University, Blueface was invited to his friend Laudiano’s music studio to retrieve a phone charger, and after being challenged to rap over a beat, he began working to release his first song, “Deadlocs,” produced by Laudiano, onto SoundCloud.
Famous Cryp, his first full-length project, was published in June 2018. After the song and EP helped him gain a local following in California, he published his second EP, Two Coccy, on SoundCloud and Spotify in September 2018.
Blueface’s song “Thotiana” debuted at number 75 on the Billboard Hot 100 on January 26, 2019, being his first Billboard chart entry. YG remixed the song, and a music video was also released. He and Cardi B collaborated on a remix that was published the next week along with another Cole Bennett video. There’s a third version that blends the three versions, but the first two remixes may be found on streaming services independently.
