Les Wexner Career
Wexner began his career in retail by working in the clothing store “Leslie’s,” which was named after his father. His parents asked him to take care of the store when they went on their first vacation in ten years after he decided to leave law school.
He looked at the profit and loss margins on the women’s clothing they sold while they were on vacation. He saw that as albeit more costly dresses (for example coats) had a higher edge for everything, they sold less as often as pullovers and were thus less productive as a line. His father was uninterested in altering his inventory when he was informed of this.
Wexner started The Limited with a $5,000 loan from his aunt Ida in 1963, which was later matched by a bank. Due to its limited focus on moderately priced items like skirts, sweaters, and shirts that sold quickly and brought in more money, the store got its name. After a year, Wexner’s parents sold their retail establishment and joined their son in running The Limited.
Les Wexner Controversy
In recent years, Wexner has faced controversy over his association with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender and financier. Wexner was reportedly one of Epstein’s largest clients, and there have been allegations that Epstein used his relationship with Wexner to facilitate his crimes.
