Michael Rubin is a well-known American philanthropist, social justice advocate, and businessman. He is most well-known for starting and running Fanatics, a leading online retailer of licensed apparel and accessories for US sports fans. Rubin exited Villanova College to begin his most memorable business, GSI Trade, which he ultimately offered to eBay in 2011.

Rubin, the son of Paulette and Ken Rubin was born into a Jewish family. His father was a veterinarian, and his mother worked as a psychiatrist.

When he was 12 years old, he opened a ski-tuning shop in his parent’s basement in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania. Two years later, he opened Mike’s Ski and Sport in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, using $2,500 in bar mitzvah gifts as seed capital and a lease signed by his father.

Rubin established Fanatics in 2010 following the sale of GSI Commerce. Since then, the business has grown to a multi-billion dollar operation. He is currently in charge of Fanatics as executive chairman. Rubin is also an active philanthropist and social justice advocate outside of his work at Fanatics.

He set out to change the US criminal justice system by founding the non-profit REFORM Alliance. Rubin has received praise for his charitable work and entrepreneurial success. He has been included on the Forbes list of billionaires and Time magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people.
