About Prince Hans-Adam II
Hans-Adam II has been the Prince of Liechtenstein. He is the son of Countess Georgina von Wilczek, the wife of Prince Franz Joseph II. He is also known as the Count of Rietberg, Duke of Troppau, and Jagerndorf. A constitutional referendum held in 2003 increased the Prince of Liechtenstein’s authority during his rule. In 2004, Hans-Adam gave his eldest son Hereditary Prince Alois the role of regent, which he had given him in 1984 to help him get ready for the position.

He entered the Vienna Schottengymnasium in 1956. He moved to the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz in Switzerland in 1960, where he graduated with a Swiss Matura and a German Abitur in 1965. After that, he worked as a bank trainee in London. After that, he went to the University of St. Gallen studied business administration, and in 1969, he got his licence. He is familiar with English and French notwithstanding his local German.
As a means of beginning a dynastic transition to a new generation, Prince Franz Joseph II formally gave his eldest son the authority to make day-to-day governmental decisions in 1984, while still legitimately remaining head of state and holding the title of sovereign ruler. On November 13, 1989, Hans-Adam officially took over as Prince of Liechtenstein after his father’s death.

The Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination (LISD) at Princeton University’s Princeton School of Public and International Affairs was established in 2000 with a donation of $12 million from the Prince.
