Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was the second president of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Khalifa’s Family

He was born on September 7, 1948, at Qasr Al-Muwaiji, Al Ain, in Abu Dhabi. Khalifa is the eldest son of Hassa bint Mohammed Al Nahyan and Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Right when his father, Zayed, became emir of Abu Dhabi in 1966, Khalifa was assigned the ruler’s representative in the Eastern District of Abu Dhabi and top of the Courts Division in Al Ain. Before he became the emir of Abu Dhabi, Zayed was the representative of the ruler in the Eastern Region. The palace’s construction company, Ascon, installed a sewage system for the site’s construction workers. In February 2010, the system overflowed, releasing rivers of waste throughout the over 8,000-person region. Khalifa’s office and local government agencies quickly sent in engineers and technical experts to fix the issue. The government imposed an $81,000 fine on Ascon after concluding that the company violated health and building codes for its employees. The incident was attributed by Ascon to “unpredicted weather conditions.”
