John Joseph Ricketts, the son of Florence M. (Erhart) and Donavon Platte Ricketts, was born on July 16, 1941, and grew up in Nebraska City. Having four children—Pete, Thomas, Laura, and Todd—with his wife Marlene Margaret (Volkmer), Ricketts was reared as a Roman Catholic. He is presently a resident of Wyoming’s Hoback Basin.
