Lauren was brought into the world on October 14, 1939, in the Bronx, New York City, to Ashkenazi Jewish settlers Frieda (Cutler) and Honest Lifshitz, a craftsman and house painter, from Pinsk, Second Clean Republic, presently Belarus.
