The medical company bought Corange, a Bermuda-based holding company that owned the drug and diagnostics company Boehringer Mannheim in Mannheim, Germany, in 1998 for $10.2 billion in cash. This was one of the company’s most notable acquisitions. That exchange cemented the fortune of Germany’s Engelhorn family, including Brief Engelhorn, who was Boehringer’s Chief for quite some time.
Roche finished the acquisition of San Francisco-based biotech Genentech Inc., for $46.8 billion out of 2009.
